2003 Mana O Ka Moana Ocean Challenge

This years Ocean Challenge was filled to the top with some of Hawaii’s top watermen and women.
The Mana O Ka Moana Ocean Challenge is the brain child of race director Bram Denhaan; "The first year I put on the Ocean Challenge race in 2000", say’s Denhaan, "it was a handful of watermen and woman with the desire to try something new." This year some of Hawaii’s very best athletes showed up to try their hand at this long distance ocean contest of endurance and skill.
The Maui County Lifeguards flooded the top of the charts, showing the rest of Hawaii that they can go toe to toe with best in the world.
In the Men’s individual race the competition was a fierce competition of pure will power and skill going into the canoe leg of the race - a battle between Frampton, Barker, Mitten, Olson, and Denhaan. Frampton finishing first overall, followed by Barker then Mithen.
This years individual women were awesome! They were flying over the course at record paces, serving notice to the world that Maui woman have what it takes to keep the title here on Maui once again. First place went to Jocelyn Hrkach, followed by Deb Robinson and Nancy Robberson.
This years teams were fast as lightning! Blazing over the Ocean Challenge course at a mind bending pace and finishing in first place was Will Estes and team mate Jacob Abeytia in a time of 1:31:40, followed by Johnny Hossell and Yuri Soledad in second, Rick Nu’u and Mael Carey in third.
